In Greek, “Pausilypon” means "pause from pain" or "rest from worries". In the past it was the name of the neighbourhood of Naples, today known as Posillipo. This album was conceived from March 2020, when I started recording ambient sounds in urban spaces. I felt the need to incorporate this material into the practice of composition, in order to create a narrative music capable of representing the experience in the exceptional period of confinement. This creative approach intends to reflect the transformations derived from the global pandemic, which modified (among other things) the soundscape of urban spaces.
From the semantic and musical potential of the collected soundscapes, I created melodies, textures and sounds, as well as rhythmic patterns. On this sound material, Paola D’Agostino (Italy), Nilson Muniz (Brazil) and Maze (Portugal), composed some texts giving a poetic dimension to the album.
In “Pausilypon” the musical composition connects with the soundscape, an element that gives a deep connection with the sociocultural environment and with a specific context.
